2010 Holiday Letter (Going Green)
We hope your holiday season is a joyous one. This year in an attempt to go paperless, we have decided to use a blog site to update everyone on our past year.| Ocean Isle, North Carolina |
Thom continues to work at UW Hospital. Due to a hip injury, he has cut down his running, but increase his biking. He is finally starting to run races again. He continues his yearly trip with Ed, however; this year they did a biking trip instead of backpacking.
Brenda continues to teach Computer Literacy at Kromrey Middle School. This year proved to be an interesting start to the school year, as Kromrey was shut down for the first 6 days of school due to high mold levels. On top of that, new software interfaces rendered Brenda's regular MAC lab useless and she has been barely ahead of the students as converts all of her curriculum from MAC to PC. A mild Fall allowed her to continue to play tennis outside into the first week of November.
Kim is finishing her final year of courses at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire in Music Theraphy. She will still have a semester long internship next Fall before she graduates. She has applied to four internships, all of which are in Ohio. After 11 years of white walls, Kim spent several weeks of the summer painting the walls of our family room, living room, music room and kitchen. It looks wonderful.
Matt graduated from high school in June and headed to Brazil for a year in August with the Rotary Youth Exchange program. He is currently in high school there, but may audit college classes next semester. He has been accepted for Fall 2011 at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and at this point he hopes to study environmental science. You can check out his blogspot at lusophonematt.blogspot.com. We also encourage you to read the Peak Oil article that he wrote (see the blog link to the left for his article). He hopes to education friends and family on the need to become sustainable and to end our reliance on fossil fuels.
Unlike last year, our vacations were spent in the U.S. and our big vacation was with Thom's family in Ocean Isle, North Carolina. Thom, Brenda and Matt spent Springbreak in Naples, Florida with Thom's parents.
We hope your family is safe and well. Enjoy the year ahead.
